EEF, the manufacturers’ organisation is leading a team of experts to provide help for companies who need to be dealing now with their obligations under the Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC).
The CRC is the new mandatory carbon emissions trading scheme coming into effect in April 2010. Companies with half hourly meters using more than 6,000 MWh per year of electricity, who are not part of a Climate Change Agreement or EU ETS, will need to buy allowances to cover their carbon emissions.
EEF is warning that all organisations with half hourly meters will have to register and report, even if they are a small user, in a Climate Change Agreement or the EU ETS. Failing to report will result in penalties for companies.
The workshops will help companies understand the scheme, how to determine who in the organisation is responsible, what the impact on the business will be and what companies should be doing now to prepare. There will also be guidance about the early action credits and the legal issues which can arise from complex organisational structures.
As well as EEF experts, speakers will include officials from the Department for Energy & Climate Change, Hammonds LLP, British Gas Business and the Carbon Trust Standard Company.
