There seems to be a real lack of environmental opportunities within Europe, Im not sure why that is. Belgium and Germany are probably the most well reflected, with Spain and Portugal very short on the ground. Italy has the fortune of having the JRCC based in ISPRA so gets quite a number of PHD openings based there. However, the general situation in Europe (exc UK) is of a low dearth of green job opportunities. The UK certainly seems to be leading the way with environmental job opportunities. Irrespective of the current economic climate, the number of environmental jobs has certainly risen from 2008 when there was a freeze on many depts and organsations recruitment budgets.
Hopefully when the economic climate is a little better, the world will again begin to put organic and environmental at the front of the agenda.
